Core Courses

Day Skipper
An introductory course for all members of the family or crew, including those new to boating. Applies to a wide range of vessels including yachts, launches, powerboats, jet skis, sea kayaks and waka.
Boatmaster
A comprehensive course for boaties with some existing knowledge and experience. Applies to a wide range of vessels including yachts, launches and powerboats.
Marine VHF Radio
The minimum requirement for all users of Marine VHF Radio.

Specialty Courses

Sea Kayak Module
A short course covering sea kayaks, equipment, communication, emergencies, planning, weather, rules, and navigation.
Coastal Skipper
An advanced course covering coastal navigation, weather, passage planning, and seamanship relevant to those wishing to undertake coastal voyages.
Ocean Yachtmaster
An advanced course covering ocean navigation and passage making, for skippers and crew intending to race offshore or cruise to overseas destinations.
Radar
A comprehensive course to help you understand and safely operate the radar set on your vessel.
GPS
An advanced course to enable safe navigation and use of GPS.
Marine Medic
Introductory through to advanced courses specific to the marine environment.
Engine Maintenance
Outboard and Inboard courses that cover care, maintenance and trouble-shooting.
Sea Survival
Essential and comprehensive courses to cater for cruising boaties and coastal/offshore racing yacht crews (cat 1).
Club Safety Boat Operator
A practical on-water training course for operators of yacht club safety boats.

Practical Courses

Powerboating
(Runabouts, Ribs, and other outboard-driven craft) Introductory through to advanced courses covering practical boat handling skills.
Sail Cruising
(Keelers and Multihulls) Introductory through to advanced courses to develop sailing competence as crew or skipper in inshore, coastal, and ocean waters.
Motor Cruising
(Launches) Introductory through to advanced courses to develop motor cruising competence as crew or skipper in inshore, coastal, and ocean waters.

Certificates of Competence

RYA/MCA Advanced Powerboat
A 4 - 5 hour practical exam.
RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper
A 6 - 10 hour practical exam.
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore
An 8 - 12 hour practical exam.
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean
A 1.5 hour oral exam.

School Programmes

Safe Boating Programme
Free to download these teaching and learning programmes provide Primary and Intermediate schools with preparation for EOTC boating experiences such as kayaking, yachting, powerboating, and waka. The programmes are primarily linked to the Health and PE curriculum, with links to Science, Technology, and English curricula for years 5-8.
Day Skipper Experience
A half day practical learning experience for intermediate and secondary aged students. Sponsorship from Toyota Financial Services is available for schools.
